Talk about all hope not lost!! I just got email from Michigan State College of Human Medicine to fill out their secondary. It's almost 7 months late but all the same its another chance. I was rejected by them 2 weeks ago and all of a sudden they are inviting me to fill out their secondary. How weird.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone has had similar experience with any school but mostly with Mich. State.

Do you think its a waste of time? I have 2 weeks to submit the secondary which has 3 essays. Then they have to screen it again to see if they will invite me for interview.

I'm still waiting for acceptance at 3 other schools so this prolly wont matter in the long run hopefully.

It happens...I've heard of schools accepting people they initially rejected as it became apparent that they were a little too selective and weren't going to fill their class...then of course there is the famous Minnesota mess up where they mailed acceptances and rejections to the wrong people. You may want to call Michigan State to see what is up...I'm sure they have a better answer than anyone on here

If you dont have a definite acceptance in hand, you should fill out the secondary. At this point, you know two things a) they clearly misjudged their selectivity, and b) they seem to have chosen you specifically from a smaller subpool of their applicants that are not as high as their preferred group, but not as low as their unacceptable group.

Every school gets more than enough candidates in their initial screening process, no matter how selective they are. They probably had an unusual number of applicants tank their interview or withdraw or some combination of both. As far as Michigan State is concerned, this is a simple corrective measure to ensure that they have enough people interested in their program to choose from once June rolls around. So I dont think there are going to be more than 100 people who are included in this secondary invite. Also, they probably wouldnt begin reopening secondary submissions unless they were at short by at least 10%. I would estimate you have a 1/5 chance, or 20%. I base this on the fact that if they chose to reopen secondary submissions, they would probably screen candidates for invites much more closely, to avoid whatever problems led them to this state in the first place. So, you should have significantly better odds.

They just want your money.

Yeah I got this email too this morning. Not sure whether to be excited or not but it is my home state so I will turning it in for sure by Friday.

😳

They already got my money 7 months ago. It was $65 for the primary application.

Sounds like there was definitely some issues with their process. I'll take the chance even if its a little chance.

Yeah I got this email this morning. I'm not sure whether to be happy about it yet or not lol, but it is in my home state so I will be sure to turn it in by Friday!

I was given the "Thanks but no thanks" email from Mizzou in october and then asked for an interview in December. It happens..

I also got the email from Michigan State. I'm still going to fill out the application, but the situation aggravates me a little bit.

Hi there,
Secondary applications are a huge money maker for medical schools. Just make sure that you are not just paying money to fill out a form only to get another rejection letter. Do some calling before you send the dollars. If they have promised you an interview upon receipt of seconday, then by all means fill out the form and send the money because you have a shot. If not, then do some investigation before you lose the money.

Michigan State's a bit crazy, and asks for $ before screening you for secondaries (everyone sends money, not everyone gets secondaries).

I think that this is legit. I got a follow up email asking me if I intend to complete the secondary as they are planning the final Interview Day.

I emailed them back asap and am working on the essays now!

MSU is my undergrad, so I hope that helps...

Bump.

Did anyone else get this secondary? Did they mention the ABLE program in it? They did in mine, saying that I could be either asked for an interview or get a recommendation for this post-bac program. Not too confidence inspiring...

Maybe I'll get lucky. 😕
