Those who have been rejected by a summer research program or med school know how incredibly crappy it feels to get a rejection letter. So, lets say you get into your medical school of choice. Now its YOUR turn to let the other medical schools, who have accepted you, know that you won't be attending. What would be the funniest thing you could possibly say. (In a proffesional way of course) :meanie:

I regret to inform you that because of the high number of acceptance I have received this year, I am unable to further consider your school.

I wish that I had this problem :meanie:

This has been brought up somewhere else on this site, so you might be able to search it and see.

My advice: don't do it. You never know if this might come back at some point in the future to bite you in the ass. Don't burn your bridges is a good cliche in this instance.

well you should definately cancel applications and interviews at schools you are definately not going to attend. doing so helps out your fellow applicants by giving them a shot at your interview spot. i had to cancel some apps and i just sent an email that said something like:

"unfortuantely i must cancel my application with your school. i have been accepted at my state school and do to tution issues have decded to attend there. thank you for your consideration."

actually it was pretty difficult for me to do even though i had already made up my mind about one school. just the thought of rejecting an acceptance never came into my mind in this hard fought battle to get into med school.

but if i was to joke around it would have to be something like this:

I am sorry, but due to the strong credentials at others schools, I am unable to offer my tuition and attendance for the class of 2009. I am clearly aware of your strong program and desire to train future physicians, and the fact that I am unable to accept your offer in no terms indicates the strength of your program. With over 20 osteopathic medical schools to choose from, it was a decision not made incredibly easy. I wish you the best of luck in your pursuit of other well qualified students. And although I was your first choice, I am sure you will find an alternate that will bring to your school what Im bringing to another.

Sincerely,
Lucky and Cocky Student
class of 2009

I agree that you shouldn't send a "ha ha" letter. I know its tempting after feeling like you've been raising your hand crying "pick me, pick me!" for months and months, but you'll be a better person if you can let go of any hurt ego/feelings you've experienced during these months.

In my letters I will write the same reasons as Stoic, tuition is cheaper at the state school I was accepted into, and its most convenient for me. I'll mention how much I was impressed with their program, too.

I'm much more tempted to write snotty letters declining rejectances I've recieved. But alas, I have to let this idea go, too. 😎

Right. You have to be a good sport and not take being declined personally because there are so many people and so few spots.

I should have posted this in the lounge, it wasn't meant to be so serious 😎
