Well with interviews comes rejections, no big deal though. Thought I'd be down, but I'm not. Still waiting to hear from 63 more

Is it safe to assume that if you haven't been offered an interview by programs that are currently offering, that you most likely can forget about it? Or do most programs offer interviews in "blocks" to applicants based on their competitiveness at that program?

The reason I ask is that, according to this site, I am 1/7 of interview offers received to those that are offering. I am not enjoying those odds. Thanks for any input anyone can give.

I got an offer from Louisville KY which came by email yesterday, but by the time I called today they were all full up (now on the waiting list for interview...).

Soooo, no interviews out of the 5 places I've heard from...sigh. Only about 60 more to go.

for those out there with great step one scores, do you get the feeling that radonc folks dont know what the numbers mean? I too have a very high step 1 score and when I met with the chair of my dept for a LOR she was like, is this any good? this seems to be corraborated by posts from the past few folks with high scores getting passed over for interviews... obviously there is much more that goes into the applicant, but USMLE is the one objective piece of info that PDs have to compare on all candidates

Your post may be spun off into its own thread. Anyways, Step I scores do not carry as much weight in this field as in Derm, integrated Plastics, etc. Research is considered important.

so i got a nice little letter of rejection from Fox Chase today in the mail.

at least they sent it on letterhead.

What does it mean if you see schools that have invited some folks but haven't invited or rejected you? is this the 'waves' phenomenon?

so far rejected from Denver and Fox Chase, and only invited to Mayo Jax.

thinking about getting in some Internal Medicine applications...

what a pain this whole process is... makes you feel lower than low. for a nice change of pace, go on a prelim interview (they think I am stellar!) all these rejections are making me think about Phizer

The Education Committee at the University of Chicago has met to review applications for residency positions to commence 7/1/09. Our review committee this year consisted of four attending physicians and a residency coordinator. The final decisions represent the majority opinions of this committee.

In recent years the pool applicants to our program has been overwhelmingly competitive, and this was particularly true for this year’s applicants. With the quota of three ACGME approved match positions, the amount of outstanding applicants far outweighed our ability to interview all of the well-qualified candidates. For this reason, we are unfortunately unable to invite you an interview at this time.

We have created a waiting list, and will be in contact over the next month if any interview space does opens up. Thank you for your interest in our program. We wish you much success in your residency search

I'm not really sure I would characterize the whole thing as a waitlist notification. It read pretty clearly like a rejection to me.

For the record, I got an interview offer today from a program that had already sent me a rejection. Apparently they had a cancellation. So all hope is not lost even once that rejection comes (just 99% of hope).

...maybe that's why Loma Linda sends two? To say, "yes, you REALLY ARE rejected."
