As far as rejections go, this is probably as good they come. Not only were they nice about it, but they sent it early so you don't remain in suspense until February.

No interview from Harvard / Tufts. Waiting list for NYU. Notice a dearth of posts mentioning NY, wonder why. What have people heard about Columbia? Good/bad/ugly? By the way I am new to this board and have found it very interesting and thoughtprovoking...

Ok, Memorial felt the need to send out rejections less than a week before rank lists are due. Gee...thanks. I had kinda figured it out on my own. On the upside, they do nicely add that if things don't work out, I am welcome to reapply for a 2008 spot. 🙄

I'm confused: I thought there was only "not matching," but I didn't know there were also rejections. How does this work? If a school KNOWS they won't be ranking you in their top 10, they reject you?

I think they are referring to schools where one was never offered an interview in the first place. If a program decides not to rank you, they will simply do it, they won't send you a rejection letter stating that.
