Rejections?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
you're telling me. your post made me chuckle. when i told the vet students with whom i'm taking classes about the rejection, they asked, 'what the hell else do you need to do?' then the guy next to me said he applied to purdue three times--first year, offered interview, rejected; second year, rejected flat-out, despite the fact that he had graduated from purdue with a master's degree in veterinary patholobiology (and he only applied to purdue that year because he thought he was a shoo-in); third year, interviewed and accepted at michigan, western, and yes, purdue.

it's a mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, mad midwest.

Heheh, yeah, see my comment in the 'Colorado' thread. I am so glad to not be going through all that again 🙂

I hear ya. I didn't get an interview my 3 years of applying in-state to CSU, but accepted my first time applying, out of state, to my current source of torture. 🙂 It's nice to be in but I don't want to be a first-year anymore 😎

And see my comments regarding CO. As I said there, I went into the application process considering it a bit of a crapshoot. There are stories like this from every school. Who knows what they are looking for. Sometimes I think if you happen to get in the review pile for the kind person your in, but if you get the unkind person forget it. One hopes its not that subjective, but looking at the examples and trying to explain it....well?

I have it all figured out. The process makes no sense, and it even seems like it doesn't matter how qualified you are. When I got the rejection link from Cornell, I envisioned the adcom opening my file, laughing, and tossing it into a big fireplace along with those from so many others!!! ha. I know people more qualified than me being rejected from schools that I have gotten interviews with, yet they weren't thrown straight into the 'fire' by Cornell.

The bottom line is: we'll probably never know! 😕

So far only two interviews- KSU and Western. Haven't heard a thing from Auburn or MSU yet. Got rejected from my state school yesterday even though I got an interview last year with lower scores and GPA. V. confused. I share in the "here's to next year" sentiments.

Is it possible that the applicant pool is getting that much stronger every year?

Maybe they see that they rejected you once and are hesitant to go back on that the next year. I know for sure that is the case for med schools - if you apply to a place and get rejected, don't even bother trying again. I heard it was the opposite for vet school, but for every vet school? I don't know

It seems generally from the stories I've heard that vet schools do not look down upon someone who applies more than once. After all, almost all have some sort of post mortem where if you've been rejected you can ask them how to improve for next year. I don't know...it's a mad, mad world.

reject tufts. out of state. snail mail today.

I was told by my state school that they actually give preference to people who have applied more than once because it shows persistance and dedication to the field.

I got a spam email today in my junk e-mail account from Ross University, inviting me to attend an orientation. In my interview paranoia, my first thought was, "What do they know that I don't?"
Maybe they know we are all freaking out this time of year🙂

I got one too, so no worries. And I have no doubt that they are aware of the stress right now. And are hoping to take advantage of people's fears of not being accepted.

Rejection from Tufts today via snail-mail.
My online status page doesn't reflect it yet.

so sorry to hear that Cookie!!!

haha, I don't think those e-mails mean too much considering that I still get them and I am already in vet school!

I am sooo impatient! I've only heard from 2 of the schools i applied to and i'm kind of sick of waiting!! :meanie: GRRR.... I'm trying to figure out what the deal is... am i just low on their list to interview or accept but not low enough to flat out get rejected already?

i have an interview at va-md Feb 8th, i'm a md resident
and i'm an illinois reject.

haven't heard from anybody else (and yes, i applied to a ton of schools... nobody could help me narrow down my selection... my advisor asked me if i'd taken my VCAT... then he asked me if i took my GED... sooo i didn't listen to anything he had to say except for where applicants from my university have gotten accepted in the past few years).... so have people heard either way from Penn, CSU, LSU, Wisconsin, NCSU, Davis (looooong shot, haha), Missouri, or Auburn??

totally hear you... For CSU and UC Davis - CSU has started sending acceptance and rejections letters - they say that we should know in the next few weeks; Davis has sent out "we got your stuff" email, but we won't hear from them again for awhile (they take ~3 out-of-staters). hope this helps, and good luck!

NCSU just sent me confirmation of having all my application bits & pieces (supplemental, GRE, letters of rec, fees paid), via email.

From what I understand, in the past they've taken a look at and decided about out-of-staters first, and around this time of year they begin to hit the in-staters. You usually won't hear anything until your 'yay' or 'nay' comes mid-March, via snail mail (this is from in-state experience anyways.)

Can I ask when you got this email as I have not heard a thing from them, but I believe they had everything when I called a while ago. Thanks!

i got that email from them in october... they didn't send anything out saying they've recieved my fall transcripts tho

Ok, so I'm dying to know if anyone here has applied to or heard from Washington State or Oregon State Univ. I'm feeling like one of those applicants that doesn't get rejected flat out initially but still isn't good enough to notify right away. The worst part is not knowing, I can deal with rejection ya know. 😕

I applied to WSU and I have heard absolutely nothing. I am in-state. Check out the thread someone started about WSU a couple days ago for more information. It seems they have already interviewed and accepted their Idaho applicants so we should hear something soon. Hope that helps🙂

I applied to both as well, non-resident, and haven't heard anything yet. 🙁

Rejection, Washington State. Snail mail, dated 1/12. I was a non-resident.

WSU, rejection, snail-mail, non-resident.

Minnesota, rejected! Found letter a couple days ago, don't know when it got here.

I got a mixed bag. I got an interview at UPenn and rejected from Minnesota and Illinois the same week and then interviews at Tufts, Purdue, and Ohio. I am a Mass resident. The system seems rather random!

Good luck!

Missouri rejection letter today, dated and post-marked Jan 24. 🙁

I think I posted in the Washington thread, but I also got a rejection from them a few days ago.

Missouri's letter states that only 1 out of 33 out-of-state applicants were accepted this year.

I'm gonna take a wild guess that that 1 person isn't me... oooooh well.

Missouri-snail mail

VA-MD via snail mail. i had the fire place going when i checked my mail so i just burnt the letter after reading it. that definitely made me feel better. oh well... THEIR LOSS! 😛

Got an official "you are not invited to interview" letter from western today...not a surprise after never getting a phone call this week.

Did you guys who received Missouri rejections go to the interview? The 1/33 figure doesn’t sound right. On the website where you signed up for your out-of-state interview there were 80 something spots, and most of them filled up. I received an e-mail a couple of weeks ago saying they would send out letters around March 1st so this is a little early.

Geez I'm freaking out now! I shouldn't have checked this message board before trying to go to bed! I live out in the boonies, so it always takes a couple more days for snail mail to reach me than it does for other people.:scared:

No interview... what was the deal with the interview, did i screw up? Were there REALLY only 33 out of staters? What did i miss here....😕

Does anyone know how long it takes for Penn to send you a rejection letter after the interview if they don't accept you?

Sorry for not making much sense earlier. I’m just speculating that the 1/33 number means only 1/33 out-of-state applicants that did not go to the interview was accepted. There were more than 33 total out-of-state applicants.

I had an interview on 1/12 and were told we would get a letter in two weeks with acceptance/rejection/ or hold. That being said two weeks was up on Friday and no mail--but that could be my University being slow as much as anything else.

Good luck!

I thought the 1/33 number for Missouri was more a statistic of the overall non-resident pool. Therefore the people that interviewed would have a higher probability of acceptance than 3%. I think I remember that about 85 people were interviewed, and (just guessing as I couldn't find a number of non-residents in the Class of 2010) that if 25 non-residents were accepted, that gives a 29% chance for those that interviewed to be accepted. That could be all wrong though...

I too thought this was very early notification based on what they told us...

Razor's explanation makes much more sense. Did you also receive notification Razor or are you wishing it wasn't Sunday like me?

wishing it wasn't sunday/trying to figure out if it means anything that I didn't get a letter yesterday...I'm wondering if they just sent out notification to those who didn't interview, but won't let us know until around March...ugh, too many questions going through my head!

I didn't apply to Missouri, but a quick check of the AAVMC's Veterinary Medical School Admission Requirements book (which I thought most of us have) shows that for the class of '09, they admitted 10 non-residents out of 101.

I got my rejection from Missouri on Sat. as well. I was never contacted for an interview. Therefore, I think the round of rejections received this weekend went only to those who didn't interview.

Razor & Capella - I wouldn't worry. You'll probably find out in March like they told you.

Yes, regarding Missouri, I was never invited to interview.

Rejection from Penn recieved on Sat via snail mail (I interviewed on the 12th).

Oh well, I knew the interview didn't go well...here's to mid february interviews!

CSU snail mail. Letter dated 1/26

I'm not that bummed...I have two interviews so far.

Colorado State by snail mail. I had a great interview at Texas A&M today thought and I'd rather be in Texas in anyway so it's all good 🙂

Got an official "you are not invited to interview" letter from western today...not a surprise after never getting a phone call this week.

Me too, yesterday. Boo. I "celebrated" and toasted next year with a bottle of wine and a tube of cookie dough... I figured it was worth the risk of e. coli- dang microbiology classes, had to lecture on the dangers of cookie dough.

Sisiut1, trying to look on the bright side- I go to school with someone who got their Western rejection quite some time ago. At least there may have been some consideration for interviews?

At least work today kept me insanely busy, too busy to think about my hang over 😛

Ha, don't forget about Anisakids (pinworms)!! Gotta love raw cookie dough!
