Just wondering how most schools reject people...I know a few send them out quickly. I was wondering if a lot of the top tier schools wait until the end of the cycle to reject applications (i.e. even if they review my app in september and put me in the "reject" pile...they won't let me know til next year). Is this the case?

Varies a lot. Some reject you early, some just sit on your secondary for a long time before declining an interview.

Post interview, you could be in the "competitive pool" for a long time before any real decision has been made. Sucks if you're in that purgatory

Depends on the school. The non-rolling admissions schools I applied to let everyone know on the same day. As for everyone else, you can get anything from a letter in the mail to the infamous "silent rejection."

Then there is the best rejection of all.... by singing telegram!

I really don't like the idea of silent rejections. Rejection letters/emails should be a normal practice enforced to all medical schools.

I personally never got any silent rejections. However, I did get a couple rejections at the very end of the cyce (May) to inform me that I wasn't going to get an interview.

I don't like it either, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen (*cough* Jefferson *cough*). I agree, though, schools should at least give the applicants an answer so they can get ready for the next application cycle if they need to.

Yeah I agree with this. I understand if they cannot accommodate everyone in their school. But if they've got enough time to cash my check, they've got enough time to send me a letter saying thanks but no thanks.

I'm still waiting on some rejection letters from the 2008 cycle.
