Hi all, I thought it may be helpful to do a poll on how your prelims matched up with your highest practice test score. This is, of course imperfect for many reasons, but I just wanted have a rough idea for future test-takers. (My TPR and K scores have been very close, and this seems to be the case for most I have seen post, but I understand this isn't guaranteed). The scores for FL's seem incredibly deflated for the new exam, so I hope this will shed even a little light on whether they are at all indicative of success on the real MCAT. Please take the median of your overall score (ex: 80-90 would be 85%) and choose the corresponding option based on your highest FL score. Thanks for your help!! Good luck to all in admissions!

Also this is somewhat contingent on my having predicted prelims based on word of mouth on FL scores, still I hope some find this useful.

You should put this in the pre-Med mcat forum

sorry I am still fairly new at this, how do I move the thread?

There was an old SDN study done on the older test. TPR score and K score were both terrible at predicting actual score. If it didn't work for the old one which existed for so many years, there is no reason that they will work for the new test. People need to stop trying to predict AAMC score using non AAMC materials. Futile.

I respectfully disagree. I think that the small chance of it being more predictable on the new exam is worth a shot and shouldn't stop people from trying to make sense of things. To each their own.

Well, the subjects are changing, but the fundamental design of the questions are just the same. I've done sample questions after my MCAT last year and I had been trying to decipher the new MCAT for a while when I thought about tutoring it. TPR and Kaplan have never been able to reflect the AAMC logic in the ways they design their practice questions of which I did tons. I don't see how they make the leap now.

They are and have always been helpful with content reviews, though only some content they do a better job than other ones. Their practices problems only serve to evaluate ones' mastering of content. There are two parts to the MCAT: content and familiarity with the peculiarity of the questions. The gain of content knowledge can only help someone to a certain score. Without a thorough understanding of the way the AAMC asks their question, it would be hard for a given test taker to perform constantly or to achieve near perfect score. Such understanding cannot be gained by doing outside practice tests.

I understand one's need to try to seek pattern for comfort, but having a false impression will do more harm than good.
