In the 1994 ITE Exam question 157 (K-type):

The correlation between pulmonary artery diastolic pressure and left ventricular preload is altered by:

1) mitral valve stenosis
2) hypercarbia
3) PEEP
4) systemic hypertension

Answer: A

I am puzzled as to how hypercarbia alters this correlation. Anyone? 😕

Hypercarbia, like hypoxia, increases pulmonary vascular resistance.

increases PVR...you can find a succinct list in most major texts on this topic...go through the answers and you will find that they all make sense
