Hi all,

I'm interested in doing Orthopedics. I know research is a huge plus, especially if published. Is it necessary to to orthopedic research as opposed to something else? The reason why is that I'm having difficulty finding some research in the ortho field and there are a few opportunities at my school that are available.

Also, does research from undergrad carry over? I've did two years in diabetic and organic chemistry research.

Thanks in advance.

I am not a resident but a just a lowly medical student but I think any research will help your application while, obviously, research in the field you are entering would be better. You can't think of research as this big check mark the PD is going to put on your application and go, "Yep this kid has research".

You can put whatever experiences you want on your application. If you think that it was a quality experience and you wouldn't mind talking about it if brought up then I would say put it in your app. Specifically, if you think your undergrad research is worthwhile put it on there and go for it. Just my $.02. Good luck....
