My brother wants to surprise his wife with something relaxing to do for the weekend right after her second exam, because she'll have spent the last yr or so studying for her two USMLE and CS exams. He's going to take her to get a nice two or three hr massage+manicure/pedicure and all that good stuff, but any other suggestions? I was thinking star gazing and sailing is pretty relaxing, but I don't live in Cali (where they live) so I'm not familiar with the cities and where popular places for these two things would be. Do you guys know? Also if you can think of any other different/interesting relaxing things to do, I would certainly appreciate some suggestions. Thanks!!!

LA and SD are two totally different places. There is an insane amount of stuff to do in both and completely dependant on what type of things you like.

BUT, if I can make a suggestion: Have your brother take her to the Getty in west LA. There is a very nice place to eat at the top of the hill you need to make reservations for. Outside of some places in Malibu and Santa Barbara, I think this makes for one of the most romantic things to do in LA.

Works wonders on UCLA sorority girls at least.... 😀

Thanks for the suggestion!

Do they like Zoos? Both LA and SD have awesome zoos. check those out.

in the LA area, they can also take a boat to Catalina Island- that's pretty relaxing and a pretty ride. They have some nice restaurants over in Catalina. My husband took me to one for my birthday this year, but I can't think of it right now. getting there: http://www.catalinaexpress.com/ and info about the island: http://www.catalina.com/main.html

of course there is disneyland- maybe there are some shows that weekend? or universal studio

They could go to Santa Monica- the pier and beach are nice.

Here's a listing of other LA area attractions (sorry, I don't know much about SD except the zoo) http://www.la.com/attractions/seeall

I don't think you even need to leave SD to have a great trip, but you could take a trip to Temecula and do some wine tasting. Its only about an hour from SD, its easy to get there, and cheap to go winery-hopping. Just be sure to take a designated driver, or rent a limo!

Also, do not miss the beaches in La Jolla or Balboa Park. And don't forget about In-N-Out burgers.
