Hi guys, I have a brief question: does it matter if my research experience aligns with my major/academic interests? For example, if I major in biochem, but do functional neuroimaging research at a cognitive neurology center. I would leave for a biochem-focused lab, but I find the research I'm doing pretty interesting and I'm on track to be second/third author on 2-3 papers by the time I graduate. I was planning on majoring in neuro, but I think I'm finding chemistry more interesting than psych.

I don't think anyone cares.

And yes, chemistry is more interesting than psych.

You're fine. The point of participating in research is to demonstrate an understanding of the scientific method, and an ability to think analytically.

Any research is good as long as it's based on the scientific method. Research in science disciplines is even better. You should be fine with your current lab.

Am I going to need a good answer as to why I chose to do research at this lab if there's not much else in my app that points to this kind of interest?

"Was planning on majoring in neuro" is a pretty good start to that response
