I was looking through some of the DO School webpages and noticed that many of the private schools have religious affiliations (Touro-CA for example) I was wondering if any of these schools give preferences (officially or unofficially) to students from a particular religious background?

theres another topic about this on the main page, it seems the consensus is that they do not give preference.

pikeville is offically affiliated with the Presbyterians, but I do not know if they have a preference

it could also be that they do prefer jews but there are just so few of us that it doesnt look that way 😉

It seems the only school who really gives religious preference, or admits to it, is an M.D. school (LLUSOM)

Any medical school that recieves federal funding can not accept people based on religous affiliation. They can't have preferences do to ethnicities, races, religious backgrounds, sexual orientation, Etc.... As mentioned above there is a thread that discussed it already.

They can accept anyone they want to, but they can't base it on religious preference. I think that's what you meant to say?

cant discriminate against a person based on race, religion, creed, or sex. there is your answer.

Are there any schools that have preference to athiests? 🙂

👍 yup. They can't accept anyone solely on religious preferences.

no, their preference is that you have a NRA membership, banjo, primer colored pickup truck, complete with deer rifle and fishing rod in the back window.

i dont think the Touro NV/CA favor jews. If you look at their website all the pics are of students who are mainly indian/asian/ and black.

Almost all osteopathic schools (and many MD schools) are private though, which means they can have any kind of preference, religious or otherwise, that they want.
