Hi-

Just wanted to remind those who have been accepted to please WITHDRAW from the waitlist at any school you *know* you won't be attending (i.e. MCW). This would give all the people below you on the waitlist a better chance of attending medical school this fall. Also, the sooner you do it, the better.

Thanks!

Yes, PLEASE!!!

Some of the people on the waitlist may not be accepted anywhere else and are desparately waiting by the phone to find out if they will be going to school at ALL, or if they will have to go through the whole entire application process again. They would probably also like to find out sooner rather than later so that they don't have to uproot their whole family, make their spouses quit their jobs, etc, the weekend before classes start at a school half-way across the country.

Not that I'm worrying about that at all...

I find it hard to imagine that people are holding WLs unless they are say holding WL at their # 1 and 2 schools (ie are still holding WL at a school they would go to if they didn't get off WL #1 but would drop if they did...).

Sure, remind people - but I think at this stage of the game most people are not holding bags of unwanted WL positions. (and if I'm wrong, they're going to hell anyway... 😉 )

Boy wonder,
I beg to differ, I think in all of the excitement some people neglect to inform schools that they don't wish to stay on the waitlist. Especially if they don't specifically tell you to inform them one way or another. I think most people were too concerned with informing schools they've been accepted at that they won't be attending before may 15th.
Anyway, thanks to the OP for the reminder, I'm gonna write to Pritzker right now and tell them I've jumped ship. 🙂

Heck, in all the excitement, some SCHOOLs have not kept track of who wants to stay on the waitlist ... I got an are-you-still-interested e-mail from a school I withdrew from in March ...

Anyway, people hanging on to WLs are not going to keep anyone from getting into med school, as the OP suggests. Yes, it ties things up and is generally inconsiderate, but we're talking about the guy below you finding out at 2:15 Monday rather than 2:12 that he's being offered a spot.
