I graduated last May and was inducted into Sigma Xi, and now my membership is up for renewal, but I don't feel like paying them $90.

I'm hoping it's not necessary to renew my membership because in the off-chance I have to reapply to med school, I can still write in my application that I was selected to join Sigma Xi.

It's not really that important, right?

Its up to you but I was a member of Chi Omega all 4 years of undergrad and I actually got asked about it during an interview. Not many pre-med students go greek so it could make you stand out if the people interviewing you know anything about the greek system. That being said if you graduated you should be an automatic alumni. I'm not paying any dues now that I have graduated.

lol, totally different. chi omega is a sorority of the normally understood kind. sigma xi is a science research greek letter society, kinda like psi chi is for psychology and mu alpha theta is for math

I doubt $90 would make a difference. Unless you are doing something for the society?

I'm in Kappa Delta sorority and a lot of organizations/employers/schools like that because it shows that you can be a leader and be organized and manage your time well. Especially because Sigma Xi is for science majors, I would definitely mention your participation. As for continuing to pay fees... I wouldn't do it. I think it's enough to mention that you were involved with it during undergrad.

fyi that 90 is more than what i paid for 4 years of ama memebership...
