Hey guys

I graduated a in 2014 with a degree in biology and decided to go into our family business rather than continue on with my education. I initially wanted to pursue dentistry however I did a bit of research these past few months and I have become really intrigued in osteopathic medicine. I also started to shadow an osteopathic physician and I've really enjoyed my experience so far. However I'm planning on retaking 10 science classes, 3 of which I'm currently repeating at a local university and really excelling in this time around.

My question is would it be wise to take some classes over the summer one at a time? I'm asking because I don't know if it would look less appealing by doing well by taking only a single class at a time in the summer vs taking a full load of classes and doing well during the regular semester. Also, does repeating 10 classes suggest any red flags to adcoms??? Is 10 too much to repeat?

Can someone with knowledge regarding my question plz leave their input on the question I would really appreciate it

If you search the forums, you'll find a few stories on applicants with many repeats and some of those repeats are a repeat of a repeat (i.e. Took a class 3 times over). Such students posted to have had success. If 10 repeats puts you in the competitive range, then go for it. You get a fighting chance at least and that is really wonderful. Grade replacement will not save everyone but if you can showcase yourself as an improved individual with much to offer then you might find someone who's willing to take a bet on you.

As for the first part of your question, you mean to only to retakes 1 at a time during summer semesters only? Is there anything stopping you from taking a few courses in the fall after taking a summer course? Going to school only during summers will kinda stretch out your premed timeline. If money is an issue, I can't say much there but if it's not, do take a summer class along with a few fall classes..then spring classes and so forth.

Thanks for the input... No I will definitely be taking full schedules during the fall and spring semesters. I was just wondering if by repeating only one class per session during the summer might not look as favorable in my situation since it's only one class rather a full load of classes making it less rigorous. Because at the end of the day I want to distance myself from my past and show improvement!

Oh. I see. Nah, don't sweat it. Do your summer class!

Most definitely take only one science class in the summer. Protecting that GPA and redeeming yourself is very critical for your comeback journey. I am beginning mine in the summer so I am definitely going to do the same and up the credits to full-time in the fall/spring. You are on the right path.
