I came across this molecule as I was studying
COH(Benzene Ring)3
So this is a molecule with a center carbon and then 3 benzene rings and an oxygen coming off of it. This makes sense.
But, I could also see how this would be interpreted as a molecule that was bonded as follows:
Ring-Ring-Ring-C-OH
I know this is incorrect because when we write things like CH4 we mean that there are 4 H coming from the one carbon.
Is it ever possible that a molecule will need to be interpreted as something like Ring-Ring-Ring-C-OH and if so, how would that molecule be written?
