Alright, so I noticed that anatomy/physio is on the MCAT a lot, and I took it last year at my college, first semester A&P1 and I got a B- because I messed up in the practicals by getting D's and having a B average on tests....so my best friend in college retook classes in the summer to ace them and improve her gpa...while the grades remain on transcript-the GPA increases if you do well and thats the big incentive

That B- is my worst grade on my transcript and I only have Organic 1 and Physics 1 with easy professors and relatively not that bad so should I take this in the fall:

Organic 1-Most difficult class
Physics 1- a JOKE according to everyone
Microbiology- I was told this is on MCAT and good to take before it?
Anatomy and Physiology 1- RETAKE/REPEAT to change the B- into an A!?

I know this pushing it with 16 credits, but I want to prove to ADCOMS that I am hardworking and I can do it, but if I should not take Micro or if I should not retake Anatomy...your thoughts?

My question: Should I take Micro and not retake Anatomy 1 or should I take Anatomy 1 again and not take micro OR should I take the 16 credit insane schedule but physics lab is a joke since my college doesn't have any engineering program....

(My second semester would be organic 2, physics 2, maybe genetics, and I don't think I would retake Anatomy/Physio 2 again because I got a B, which is alright...I guess...)

I want my GPA to go up and I'm desperate because next year is my final year to do so before I apply next June...and MCAT next spring/summer...oh lord save me but I know I can do it...one year of more studying is worth it if I get into the medical school of my dreams🙂

Don't retake it. Consider this: When you fill out your AMCAS, it will average the two grades. So if you retake and get an A, your GPA will change as if you got a B+ the first time you took it. Is it really worth retaking the class for that? You'll also need to check if your school will even allow you to retake a B-.

also with the above changes I was going to take Literature and Biomedical ethics, because they are required in my major, but that's if I took only 3 science classes with labs so it would be 18 credits...but now I'm thinking to screw these electives and focus on science, just take the electives my last year....

I could take 4 science classes and 4 labs, and I think I can handle it since physics lab is a joke and anatomy lab I already took so it would be a refresher again BUT organic and micro lab would be hard....in the end I think I can petition the dean even if I wanted to take more classes past the 18 credit limit...the Dean allows it for hardworking students that have goals and want to pursue all their goals....

What should I do? I'm calling my academic adviser next week, but she's not as helpful as student's opinions......

yes but that B+ will make my GPA look better than the B-, which is a 2.7 and that's just embarassing for me...I want to show ADCOMS I can do well in BIO classes since I got B's in both Bio classes and surprisingly I LOVE BIOLOGY and its my major and I should have just retook Bio 1 and 2 since I used my AP credit, but I'd rather take upper level sciences and learn something else....

plus what about DO schools, will they factor in the A 4.0 grade vs the 2.7 B- grade...omg I dont know what to do, my heart is telling me to repeat like my good friend who did it this summer but my mind is telling me to forget it and just take micro and 3 sciences/labs and then lit and biomed ethics which are 1 term electives....any more thoughts?

Take other upper division science classes and do well in those.

Getting an A in a class you've already taken is hardly an achievement.

There is a point of diminishing returns. You are going to spend hours and hours and hours to improve something very little. If you want to get your degree done in a timely manner, just move on.

What is your overall GPA? If it is competitive for MD schools, don't worry about it.

+1. Don't waste time with this, one B- is far from a GPA killer. Take some upper level bio classes and do well in them.

I have a 3.6 GPA and one year to raise my GPA with a year of hell with organic 1 and 2 and so far I got all A's freshman year and 2 B's: B- in Anatomy 1 and B in anatomy 2 and then next year is my final year since I take MCAT in spring/summer and then apply in June...so basically its one year that will make it and break it and the stress is starting and fall semester hasnt even started...I just really want to become a doctor and there are so many obstacles to overcome, I'm just wondering is it worth it? But I'm learning everything u want in life u need to work hard and I'm prepared for those challenges to come:/

it would be a waste of time to retake the B-. I had a B- in physics and it didnt effect me at all. There's obstacles in everything that you will do. Seriously the best advice i can give is not to stress. It seems like common sense, but very few people do it. Whats the worst that happens? You dont get an acceptance. Then what? You spend ONE YEAR trying to improve your application while in the meantime working to save money or maybe even having time to vacation. In teh grand scheme of life, who cares? You dont need to go straight out of college. Its not the end of the world. Move on from anatomy, do your best in your upcoming courses and apply to med school. Thats all you can do. Stressing over it accomplishes nothing and will be detrimental to your overall outcome.

I agree with everyone saying to not bother retaking it...its a waste of time. Like they said, get A's in your upper division bio classes, and thats better than worrying about a little B-. 🙂 As for Micro, take it!! That was by far my favorite bio class, so much that I'm looking into specializing in Infectious Disease! 😛 I haven't heard that it is on the MCAT, but I'm sure there are a few questions regarding some stuff in that class. If you don't want to take that class, then take 2 gen eds instead? Everything will work out in the end. 😀

yeah I agree with both of you, I really don't wanna take the same class again and do the same thing over again...I'm happy with the B- lol not really, I'm disappointed but it was my first semester of college taking a JUNIOR level class and I failed the Lab practicals on cat anatomy and yeah...I was really sad about that since I had that premed 4.0 mentality, but I'm learning in the end if medicine is what you want, you will get it because all you need is to worry less, have fun, study hard, and stressssss LESSS---> Is there a college course for that? ha

Exactly...I took last year too seriously and stressed myself out. I am a pretty organized person too, but this year its going to be all about time management for me. I'm going to make the time to go out and still study hard, so I don't burnout at the end of the year like I did last year. In the end, we don't want to look back and think, where did supposedly "the funnest times of our life" go? Oh ya, we were neurotic pre-meds who always worried about school and studying. Yes we need to worry about that stuff of course, but in moderation. Enjoy yourself, worry about the future classes and kick ass in them! That's what I'm doing since I didn't do that well in Ochem I & II (B and C). 😳 Whatevs, can't change it now and I'm not about to take that class over!

aww I love your advice🙂 haha seriously, college is the best time of your life and for me last year was pretty depressing with all the adjustments/making new friends/away from home/so much studying...next year these are my social life goals:

1) party more
2) go clubbing
3) ask my crush out on a date
4) get rejected by my crush
5) move on with life

haha yup thats my life:/
