Repeating Calculations

I'm a P1 and just found I failed Calculations by one point, which puts me back an entire academic year. Does anyone know of a Pharmacy College that offers it in the summer?

There is little chance your school would let you transfer the credit even if you found a COP willing to let you enroll to take the class (which itself is doubtful). The chances of this working are nil.

Unfortunately it doesn't work the same way as in undergrad where you had the option to retake a course elsewhere and then finish up your studies at your original school. If you have to wait then I would at least try to get a job (if you don't currently have one but was already issued an intern license) and go from there.🙁

you'd have to ask your professor or the registrar to see if there is any agreement with a different school that would let you transfer after taking it over the summer.

That's what I thought, but my academic probation letter states that I have the option to retake it next year, or at another university. Since it's a prereq for other classes, it delays my graduation.

I'm still in shock that I didn't pass. I underestimated this final, and the grading scale was changed from the rest of the school so that a 90 is an A, but a 74 is an F. I had a B going into the final and it was worth so much of my grade. I was really hoping to find a way to move on, but it looks like I'll be doing the 5 yr plan.

I am sure things seem bad now, but sometimes things have a way of working out for the best. I like the idea of using this time to work. Maybe you can see about taking some electives as well to reduce the workload later on? Maybe you can appeal the grade?

Like another poster said, I would contact the school's deans to find out if there are programs they know of thats transferable or what are your options at this point. I'm sure they have experience in this. You're not the first person thats failed a class.

Definitely continue with the classes you can. you don't want to be away from school for a whole year.

One of my friends was in a similar situation and was able to take an online pharm calc course during the summer after our P1 year. Needless to say, he didn't have to repeat the year again and will be graduating with the rest of us in May. Unfortunately, I'm not sure exactly what school offered it but I think it was through a school in Michigan. (Wayne State, maybe?) Good luck.

Do you have loans? Don't forget that lenders will expect you to begin repaying loans if you're out of school for longer than 6 months.

See if you can continue taking other classes so you're not a whole year behind. You might end up a year behind anyway due to when classes are offered, but it will at least lighten the load for the future. We had a student a year ahead of us, and one in our class, who failed therapeutics. They continued on with the other classes like counseling, communications, compounding, law, but were a year behind in therapeutics. Since that's a major multi-semester sequence, they still graduate a year late, but a one-semester class might not put you back. I know you said it's a pre-req for some other classes, but it's probably not a pre-req for all of them. Even if they're simple classes like health economics, it helps to get them out of the way.
