This may have been answered before, but I looked and couldn't find it, so just a quick question (and please re-direct me to the relevant thread if there is one).

I currently have three letters downloaded to ERAS, and one pending (it's and SLOR from an away rotation, should be uploaded in about 2 weeks). I have already finalized the letter on ERAS and checked off the boxes on all the EM programs so that they can upload it once it's available.

My question is this: For those programs that say "submit 3 letters of recommendation", does that mean that they won't upload this - my fourth - letter? Or will they still generally upload them all? One of my other letters (that's already up) is a good letter from an IM doc (professor emeritus, etc), but I would prefer to have the programs see this SLOR rather than that one if that's the case. Should I then go ahead and uncheck the IM doc's letter from programs? And if so, when? (do I wait until the SLOR is uploaded?)

Thank you!!

They'll download it if you send it, but they might not read it. Maybe it will get put in your file, and if you mention it during the interview, they might look at it.
However, if one is already there, you can't retract it, because they generally kill trees and print them all out as they are available. So you can't replace one with another and expect them to do so in the paper copy.

Thanks, that answers my question! I'll just keep everything as is, hope they print out and read the fourth letter and make sure to mention it at interviews otherwise.
