Req. for UF?

Hello all,

I was looking into the requirements and noticed that 4 credits of Biochem was required, but the lab is not. At USF, the Biochem class is only 3 credits. Must I take a lab in order to fulfill the hour req, or is just the class sufficient?

I took biochem 3 credits and that was good enough. I already sent my final transcript and I have not get any calls telling me to take more classes. You should call them they are always very nice and helpful over the phone!!!

Their 4-credit microbiology requirement is kind of a pain also...I took a 3-credit class called "Cell Structure and Function" and even checked with them and they said it can count for microbio, but I need to take a lab...thing is, the class doesn't have a corresponding lab so now I gotta go take a microbio lab AND the official microbio lecture since they are co-requisites at my school, even though I'll be basically learning the same stuff all over again...sucks! :/

Yea, their reqs are kind of weird. Like Genetics or Cell Bio I think? Both are 3 credits @ USF but it says you need 4 credits (lab not required). Looks like I'll be calling tomorrow and I'll let you guys know what's up!

I go to USF as well. What we all did was take Biochem (3 credit hrs.) and lab (2 credit hrs.) or advanced biochem (or both!). That will make you have the "at least 4 credit hours" UF wants. Nothing wrong with going overboard, it will just help you in the end 👍 Btw, you start out with Advanced Biochem your first semester at UF. So the more biochem you know, the better. Think of it like that if it makes you feel better 😀

Be sure to let us know! I'd rather not take the lab and focus on more upper bio classes instead. Have you taken microbio yet? I'm going to take it as my only class this summer while I study for the dat.

Oh btw, for biochem, chapter five problem 7, do you understand any of that question? If so, where in the book did you find the information to answer it?

Well, I just called the admissions office. They said that if your school offers a corresponding lab, it is required to meet the criteria. Looks like I'll be taking Biochem lab (if they offer it) and Micro w/ lab this summer. Who's with me?! 😀

My school doesn't have a corresponding lab, that is probably why UF didn't say anything and accepted my 3 credit Biochemistry!!!
