"required" shadowing hours

so i know some schools like tufts have a required number of hours that you need to shadow for them to consider accepting you.

if you don't shadow a dentist for long enough for them to write some letter of rec for you, how would you go about asking them to sign off on how many hours you shadowed? any suggestions?
 
I've only heard of one or two schools (LLU being one) that require you to actually get your hours signed off, otherwise you just write how many hours you did and with who on your AADSAS app and they take your word for it.
 
Yea! I don't think the dentist needs to mention about the specific number of hours you've completed. But I've heard that some schools don't accept anything below 30hrs. Now, I haven't heard this from any credible source. I've just heard it from friends, so I can't say how accurate this statement is!
 
Tufts requires a letter from a dentist stating you did at least 30 hours of shadowing.
 
I use a spreadsheet (geeky I know).
