Hi again,

I was told on the interview trail that programs are now required to show a copy of the contract you would be required to sign prior to starting residency. Looking back, I now realize that I didn't receive this at every single place I interviewed. Then I thought I saw somewhere that this rule doesn't go into effect until 2005. Anyone have any input on this?

Thanks.

Yes, you should see a copy of your contract.

However, actually being within a residency is a very informal system placed on top of a formal one. That being said, you have to comply with everything that is in your contract PLUS whatever your program tells you to do on top of that.

In other words, don't think that your contract will in any way protect you from abuse, either from the program or the hospital.

The good news is that residents are being abused less than they ever were historically. We're much better off than the previous generation (as least as far as resident abuse is concerned)

Along the same lines- If you are not given a contract to look over or a letter to sign stating that you have viewed the details of a contract/match agreement...Does that imply that a program does not plan to rank you?
