hello everyone, i have a question and have been calling the ada for a while now and i can't seem to get any help...im hoping somebody here can guide me.

i am US citizen and i did my undergrad in the US but i am now enrolled in an international dental program. i have not graduated from that program yet but i wanted to take the NBDE part 1 because it seems to me it would be too hectic to take both parts together after i graduate. i have taken all of the required courses, what do i have to do in order to take the exam? do i have to actually wait until i graduate with a degree or can i take it earlier like they do in the US by getting permission from the dean of their college? what is the process?

as i said before i have called the ada many times only to be directed to somebody new every time, and in the end i get to a voice mail service. i even left messages but have yet to receive a reply.

please help!! =)

you can take the exam as an international graduate. in that case eligibility criteria for FTD will apply.

is there any way to take it before i graduate?

Yes you can, here is what the 2008 candidate guide says: (page 3)

"Dental Student
A dental student in an accredited program is eligible for examination when the dean of the dental school (or designee) certifies that the student has successfully completed all subjects included in Part I. If the dental school is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation at the time the application is filed, the signature of the dean (or designee) on the application meets this requirement. Currently, only dental schools in the United States and in Canada (by reciprocal agreement) are accredited by the Commission.

A dental student attending a non-accredited dental school can also be certified for examination. If the dental school is not accredited, certification must be provided on a form supplied by the Joint Commission. The completed certification form must include the seal of the university, the signature of the dean or the registrar, and be submitted with the application and fee. The examination application is not signed by the dean."

thank you soo much! you don't understand how happy you have made me!😀

ok so we need...the SIGN from the dean and $$ and thats it????? right???

Yes, if you are currently a dental student, there are several different eligibility requirements, and you have to read the entire candidate guide to get that information, you can download a copy here

Hello guys
The students who are already enrolled in a non-acredited dental school have to provide the form signed by the dean of faculty. It seems for the graduates from non-acredited dental school ADA doesnt need that form. Those who are graduated should have their documents and transcrips evaluated by ECE and sent to ADA. Am I right about all the story ? Or somebody please correct me.
