This has probably been posted multiple times but I couldn't find anything when I searched for it. Anyways I got a C and a C- this past semester after I was already accepted. The only problem is that the C- is in physics which is a pre-req. I am just wondering if anyone has heard of someones acceptance being taken away for bad grades in the applicants last semester? Thanks.

Any way you can retake the class you got the C- in? That would be the most logical response I would think. Either that or just call the school you got accepted to and ask them whether that will affect your acceptance. I have not heard anything in regards to rescinding of acceptances so I can't give you any further idea of what to expect. Sorry. I hope all turns out well.

I would definitely call the school and ask. Some schools tell accepted applicants not to get anything lower than a B. I doubt they say this as a joke.

I'm going to be in trouble then....I'll be lucky to pull a B out of my physics classes (hence I'm not taking them until AFTER I get accepted). Looks like I should go start brushing up on my algebra skills.

I know of a student accepted to Pacific in 2004. After he was accepted he got a D in a class. Pacific deferred his acceptance until this year on condition that he improved the grade.

Well the thing is on my acceptance letter it just says this is pending completion of required courses and requirements or something like that. So it does not say anything about any specific grade that has to be obtained.

most acceptance letters don't give a specific grade, they just say something like "upon maintaining an acceptable level of achievement" and then the school can decide on a case by case basis what constitutes acceptable. I'd give them a call.

Did you take the physics class for Engineering/physical science majors? There's so much calculus involved...it's crazy. I was very lucky to have taken the life science series for physics...no calculus. But I'm taking physical chemistry on thermodynamics now and it's kicking my butt...there's calculus and derivations up the butt!

I once had my first choice UG acceptance rescinded because I F*ed around ... 🙁 so don't think they're playing when they tell you to keep up the work....

Nope...I'll be taking two general physics classes- nothing calculus based. I'd go somewhere else to take the worthless physics classes if they tried to make us do something calculus based because then it would be even more pointless than algebra based physics.

I don't think there are even any engineering courses even offered at my school. There's a top rated engineering college across town so I wouldn't think we would have much reason to have an engineering program here.

what if you are taking 4 bios and 2 other classes and u are getting A's in all but a c in another one which is nto a prereq but a 2 credit bio class?

Sorry, dude.

Better get ready for the '06 cycle.

Why would you say that? If anything he can take Physics II over again during the summer?

Would they rescind only for prereq class or any other classes in your undergrade degree? I will be taking PChem i have heard it is not too much fun and by that time I will hopefully hear from schools and won't have any motivation to do well. will they rescind the acceptance then too?

my acceptance letter stated that in order to be offically admitted, i had to maintain the GPA i applied with. def. call the school to see what's up.

I will have a higher GPA then that of which I applied with but I will still probably have 1 C and 5 A's

I too was able to raise my GPA. I finished my senior year with 5 As, 2 B+s, and a B. Your C is just a small blip in the radar. Keep up the good work!

I dont know where you are going, but Columbia will only "invalidate" your admission if you fail a course, pre-req or otherwise. Maybe your school has a similar policy

Thanks!! BTW, you were taking 8 classes last semester? or you mean for the whole year?

last semester I also had all A's

I'm just kinda nervous about this C because its in a bio class (evolution), but its only 2 credits compared to my other 14 credits worth of A's (6 credits of A's in sciences)

I haven't taken the final yet but it's 50% of my grade and right now my average is a 76. This is the worst class I have ever taken in my life. It's easier to get an A in orgo than this crap.

Ohh man I don’t think I will be able to maintain a 4.0 with two semesters of PChem coming around. I hope passing is good enough. Thats asuming i get accepted anywhere.

You mean Rose-Hulman...a good friend of mine went there and is a civil engineer now (his sister also went there and is graduating in a few weeks). He brags about its good reputation all the time

nope, 4 each semester.

Yeah, Rose-Hulman. It does have a very good reputation and for very good reason.

I get accepted to dental school and the only thing I'm taking the next semesters is my physics classes and my German classes. Other than that I don't care.

What is your major? Yeah, P chem is literally impossible unless you're a genius. But then again, the difficulty really depends on your school and your professor. My p chem professor right now stresses a lot on derivation using manipulation of partial derviative. I took multi varible calculus 2 years ago so I can barely do any calculus. After this class, I have physical biochemistry to take. Lovely right?

But your GPA is superb...4.0 is great so if worst comes to worst, you will get two B's. They won't screw your GPA that much right?

I am a chem major. So there is alot of stuff form clac 3 in PChem? Damn it I didnt take it I only took up to calc 2.

What university do you attend? I go to UCLA by the way. Biochemistry is considered a physical science major so I have to take the physical science series for chemistry and calculus, which is why my GPA is so messed up. But anyway, we have to take up to calculus 3, which is multivariable. And yes, you absolutely need calculus 3 to take physical chemistry. I don't even know how it's possible to do p chem w/o understanding total differential and partial derivatives. Maybe your professor will take a few weeks to go over that stuff. If you're a chem major at my school, you take math, physics and p chem until you die, and I don't believe you have to take any bio classes as a chem major. In high school, I thought chem was the easiest science...damn I was so naive. I have a whole new level of respect for chemist. They are genius. P chem is so hard and over my head...so depressing. I feel like I'm failing this quarter.

Yeah I go to GSU so not the same caliber school as UCLA but I am not complaining about my GPA. I definitely did not want to go to GATech and get 3.0 and worry about my GPA being too low. At GSU calc 3 is not a prereq to take PChem so hopefully the professor takes time to teach us all the calc that is needed along with chem stuff. I have always been good at math and that’s the reason I chose to be a Chem major. Hopefully it doesn’t come to bit me in the butt. Thank god D schools won’t see my grades for next semester until it’s to late.
