I am presently involved in a research project at a Sickle Cell Anemia Center. This is how it goes:

1500 tribal people of varied races are screened for Sickle Cell Anemia.

The blood is collected and then I would examine whether the blood has sickle cell disease, sickle cell trait or no disease at all. (Obviously, I would have assistance)

I would use gel electrophoresis and a PCR machine to carry out that investigation. (PCR to make multiple copies of the targeted DNA and Gel Electrophoresis to analyze and compare the strands)

After all this primary data is collected, the heterozygotes and homozygotes are determined.

Investigation and conclusions would include racial relations in the transfer of this disease and genetic family trees.

Because I have access to all these facilities, I want to take the maximum advantage of it and thoroughly carry out my work.

Now, the more important part;

Can anyone suggest any good and effective questions that could be framed on the basis of the research?

What could I try to investigate, except for the genetic and racial relationships?

Any other ideas I can integrate into this process?

Would this add any weight to my application (I plan to attend a straight, BS/MD program; yes, very difficult, I know) ? I am really interested in this field and plan to opt for Medical Genetics as my major (if offered).

P.S. In India, it is REALLY hard to find such facilities. So, I have done my best to find research opportunities.

If you can't figure out what question to ask then you probably shouldn't be researching it. You wanna research and get published? Maybe you need to actually learn about what you're researching.

mrdrdrjp, yeah, I didn't really mean publications. but I totally agree with your second statement: he needs to actually read up on it so that HE can understand the material. Otherwise he won't have gained or learned anything at the end.

Comorbid diseases and genetic links. Aneurysms come to mind. Now go type in sickle-cell anemia comorbidities into google scholar and take it from there. You should read at least 100 papers on sickle cell anemia at your level if you really want to be able to develop a research level understanding of the disease.
