Research after 2nd year

Hi. For those of you who did research after your 2nd year, how was returning back to clinical education? Also how was it being one year junior to all the people you started with? Was the adjustment hard or was it seemless? Did you find being away from medical school doing research detrimental to the knowledge you had accrued during your first two years, or did this not really become an issue? Were you able to study during your research time?

Finally, would you recommend taking a year off between 2nd and 3rd years.
