Hey Guys,

I have a question about research and residency matching. I was just reading the stats and it seems like most residencies recommend research. I guess they want to see one can critically analyze data, perform experiments etc. My question is does research from undergrad count? How about regular posters and abstracts and not a full on publication?

Thanks.

Your spot on. A long track record in research from undergrad through med school tells programs you can critically analyze a problem and generate meaningful outcomes. Posters, abstracts and manuscripts are all highly regarded (in that order). Field specific research is a plus (ophthalmology research if you want to be an ophthalmologist, for example), but its not always possible to know what you want to do as a pre-med. For now just research what interests you and narrow down as you move ahead in your career.
