According to the MSAR, UCin ranks in the top 25% of school receiving NIH funding and supposedly offers "extensive opportunities for student research."

Is this true? If so, what opportunities exist? Does anyone have a friend(s) who are engaged in research at UCin?

I interview there in late Jan. and would like to have an answer for the question...Why Cincinnati?

Thanks!

I interviewed there last month - is this for the MSTP program?

Yes, it's true, Cincinnati ranks pretty high.
Their biggest selling point is the Children's hospital Cinncinnati is affiliated with - they bring in alot of money.

I'm a current first year at Cincy. There is ample opportunity yo do research if that's what you want to do. I don't really know of anyone that does research during the first year, but there are many many MANY opportunities...and nicely funded...for doing research during the summer after year 1. I also know of a few second years that have continued their project.

Children's does have a lot of money but University oispital itself is bringing in a ton of money. We just received a large amount of money for breast cancer research and one of the country's leaders in robotic surgery (or something like that) is also now at UC. Just so I sound a bit less stupid....he does surgeries inc. bypass surgery through a small incision using a robot from the other side of the room.....and did I mention he was also one of our lecturers.

That being said, there are also numerous clinical opportunities which I am much more interested in. Been down the research road before 🙂

Yes I am a second year BME at uc.

I know there are a lot low level research oppotunities at uc.

But higher level research jobs are very limited..

I'm starting at Cincy in the fall, so I've been doing a lot of digging on this very topic.

It turns out they have something called the Millennium Plan, started in 2000, wherein they plan to DOUBLE their research floor space, funding, and faculty by 2006. They seem to be well on their way to that goal already.

There are several second-year students there who post regularly on these boards and who were extremely kind about answering my questions before I started applying. They all agreed that anyone who wants to do research while in school there WILL have the opportunity.

They are moving right now from one building to the other.

Sorry to change the topic but how long after you were complete at UC did you receive on interview invite?

I've been complete for 3 months and assuming I will be rejected but I'd really like a chance to interview there...any suggestions?

Some times it could take as long as half year. It depends.

I submitted my 2' on 11/11, and the invite is dated 11/24. I really don't know how this happened but am really happy it did!
