Research at home vs. somewhere I want to be in the future

How much does pursuing summer research (as an undergraduate) at an institution you plan to apply to later on matter in the scheme of things? I really enjoy the research I'm doing at my school, but I wonder if I'm holding myself back/limiting my networking opportunities if I work there through the summer vs. somewhere else.
