Hello
Will getting involved in clinical research during my gap year prior to matriculation help make me competitive for residencies? Are we able to include this research experience on our residency applications?

I am mainly interested in surgery. I don't officially begin medical school until august 2021, so I have some time to kill. Just wondering if I should get on this, as I have alot more time now than I will once I begin medical school!

Not saying that you should get on it or anything, but it will definitely help. A pub is a pub. You will be able to include all pubs from before med school on ERAS (residency app service). Pressure to publish will be less for you because you would have already had some in your pocket. The only thing is that programs like to see continued interest, so they'll expect to see some demonstration of that while you're in school.
