Research Cover Letter?

Just needed some advice on what should go into a research cover letter? Paper is all done but somehow I got stuck with this task and wasn't sure how exactly it is to be worded or formatted.

I tried an online search and didn't get much help.

Do I just address why the paper is a good fit for the journal and to please consider the paper for review for publication?
