Research - Does it help?

I was just wondering how many of you all did any kind of medical research prior to applying to school? If you did do you think that it helped you get into school (or do you think that it will help you get into school)?

I did do a lot of research, and got accepted into my top Irish school. However, I do not know if that helped me get in or not.
