Dear Fellow Cardiology Sdn'ers!

Congrats to all who matched into Cardiology this year. For those of us who are primarily interested in getting a solid private practice/semi-academic (i.e. private practice with links to community fellowship program) - does research (either clinical/translational/basic science) really help in terms of improving overall job prospects? Most would agree that until we get into a cardiology fellowship, research is essential, but what about afterwards?

Any and all thoughts greatly appreciated!

No, it doesn't. I believe it is an ACGME requirement for fellows to do research during fellowship, but of course that doesn't mean you'll succeed in getting something published. And, it doesn't matter one bit in applying for private practice to have a bunch of research accomplishments.

In fact, many academic places have faculty that don't do any research so you can get a job there too - somebody has to see the patients/teach the students while the rest of the faculty are off running a lab / applying for grants.
