Neither is better, and no one but an Adcom can answer your first question (which would likely be answered with "neither"). Research is research, regardless of when you get it done. And don't forget that research is not a requirement for medical school. It's not your ticket in, as many pre-meds like to think. But it can help you get insight into biomedical science, which is the point of undergraduate research to begin with. It is rare for undergrads to do anything of real value in a research lab.
