I took a year off between 3rd and 4th years of med school and worked on 5 different clinical projects (seperate subject populations). They will ultimately lead to 5 papers, but right now, only 1 is submitted/accepted. As is on ERAS, I have the whole research year under one uniform research experience. Should I break it up into 5 or leave it as is? I'd rather not overload the reader if possible, and I could always talk more about them on an interview. I'd like to hear what other folk have to say.

Also, I'm working on several new projects as well (case report, book chapter, and chart review). Should I include these as experiences or leave them off until something is submitted? Thanks for your help.

I think it depends if all 5 projects were run simultaneously, or in tandem. If the latter, then break each one out. If they all overlapped, I'd list it as a single year of research, and then in the description state: "I worked on five different projects: 1) ... 2) ...", etc. You could then state "Project #x has led to an accepted manuscript, 4 other manuscripts are in progress."

Other research projects should be listed also, in general. However, in your case I'm worrried. You have 4 projects where you are still working on your submissions, and now have 3 more projects ongoing. Sounds like you've spread yourself a bit thin.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep it all as one year. It does sound like a lot, but I've kept to a timeline and they're all getting done on time. I've got the rest of 4th year to finish up stuff. No worries. Thanks again.
