With all the threads about "who got accepted where" I am feeling a little left out. So here I go... this is the Research Thread!

I have been working in a molecular biology lab for 2 years.

1 published abstract
2 presentations (1 local...capital hill, 1 national...endocrine society)
Mostly biochemistry techniques

I will continue research in Dental School... but possibly in another field besides molecular biology, biochemistry, etc.

What about the rest of you?

Overall GPA 3.32
Science GPA 3.78
DAT 22/21/21
Applying: Pitt, Uconn, UCSF, NOVA, Marquette, Case, Maryland, VCU, Ohio State

aadsas done!
interviews...???? hopefully soon!

Your application looks great -- best of luck to you!

I applied last year and will be in the Class of '09, but my research experience is as follows:

Worked 3 years as a chemist doing inorganic synthesis of nanoparticles (various compositions). Mainly synthesizing superparamagnetic iron oxide ("SPIO") nanoparticles to be used as contrast agents for MRI. Agent is currently being studied in animals -- very exciting!!

2 published papers (Advanced Materials, Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials)
2 patents (1 filed, 1 pending)
Abstracts in ACS presentations & posters

Will be doing research in dental school and I have a few ideas what I want to do but if that will be possible -- I'm not sure. Definitely want to stick with nano and would like to do more organic synthesis, like polymers...maybe see how nanofillers affect polymer properties ??

Cool! Research has made me much more confident for Dental School. So lets hear from more SDNers. 👍

I have one year of glaucoma research experience and one year of bio-instrumentation research.

1 patent (pending)
1 abstract (to be published)
2 local presentations and poster presentations.

I will continue research in molecular imaging.

I just did a semester of organic research and plan to do it for two more semesters (as well as a little bit this summer). Right now we're doing how a benzene ring affects and SN2 reaction. Can't wait to do more.

Good job all of you guys. Sounds like you're doing a lot of cool stuff.

👍

6 months and ongoing research experience in designing an embedded micro controller, optical circuitry, control software, an http-based ethernet interface, and a unique human interface for Christa McAuliffe Space Education Center in Pleasant Grove, Utah.
One day... i'll be treating the dental problems of aliens on Pluto 😀

I've been undergoing organic chemistry research for about a year with one published abstract and 2 presentations to do later this year. My research focuses mainly on an intramolecular cyclization reaction that goes through an alkynyl ether intermediate followed by a nucleophilic trap. The reaction results in the formation of 2 carbon-carbon bonds at temperatures below -40 degrees celcius.

2 published abstracts

2 papers-one submitted to American Journal of physiology, and the other bone. Praying the papers will be accepted.

4 years of research in molecular biology with an emphasis on wound healing in medial collateral ligament.

currently working with adenovirus technology in hopes of using this for wound healing.

Hockeydentist,
Your research sounds interesting.
What gene do you plan on inserting into the Adenovirus? (growth factors, differentiation factors?)
Will you be working with cytokines as well?
I wish my lab focused on experimenting with AAV's.
I think the new thing scientists will be looking at is using RNA interference at blocking binding proteins that hold up IGF-1 from doing its job.

The research project I am working on at the moment (research into the psychosomatic aspects of COPD and its management) will be in three stages and probably yield a half dozen journal articles (based on an estimate from a professor who is helping me wade through the IRB approval paperwork) and hopefully a couple of presentations. If nothing else it'll be something interesting to talk about during interviews.

were hoping, that we can overexpress Insulin Growth factor-1 and Growth hormone in the area of the wound using the adenovirus. Cytokine work is a possbility in the future, if we get our Adenovirus experiment to work.

Yay for Research!

I have two published abstracts.

I've done two summers of research at the University of Rochester-one summer on C. elegans, the other on S. mutans (the main cavity causing bacteria).

My senior year (which ended a few months ago), I did senior research on E. coli's response to cold shock.

Currently I am working as a laboratory technician at Columbia working on primary pulmonary hypertension.

I am hoping to continue doing research in Dental school, it is quite fun!
