Hello!
I am an Ophthalmology resident in Europe, in the process of obtaining my ECFMG certificate and I'd like to apply for a research fellowship in the USA. Can anyone tell me whether there is a deadline for application and a starting date just as with the residency or do these positions get filled all year round.Thank you very much.

You can start anytime. Just email different departments and see what they can offer you. You do not need to be certified in order to start a post doc fellowship

Thank you so much for your answer MDEYES. I have 3 more questions;
1.I would need an H visa as an non-citizen IMG .Do you think I would be offered an H visa for a 1 year research , even without my ecfmg certificate available yet?Will I have better chances for an H visa with my certificate?
2.How long would you estimate it takes-between the application and approval until the starting date. 3-6-12months?
3.Is 30 years old perceived as too old for this route ?
Thank you.
