Research for Indepwndent Plastic Surgery Fellowship

Do you need research to have a chance at matching a plastics fellowship? I am debating whether I need to take two years off my gen surg residency to do it but the thought of wasting two years vs completing gen surg residency is painful. Thanks!

Definitely not necessary. Would be useful to see if you can get involved in some sort of clinical research project, just to get your name on a paper or two.

What if i publish a bunch of case reports? Would that be adequate? Thx

It's better than nothing. Some sort of chart review/retrospective study would be better, though.

When I interviewed last year, evry serious candidate had research. Many were seniors doing fellowship as well. With Obamacare looming, I'd expect PS to become more cutthroat
