Hi guys and gals

I have a really close friend who is attending the CC near my college. Amazingly, he told me that one of his professors invited him to join this research group doing microbiology research about S. aureus, muscles and bones (I have no idea..)At first I was amazed because I thought CC's dont have research projects..But he told me that this professor has connection with big 4-year college, so they formed a "research cooperation" thing..He will do data and sample work (all the basic stuff) for them..
But he is just wondering if a research project at a CC is less valuable than in a 4-year...I already advised him to take the position since it's HARD to find a research project, especially in a CC...

So yeah..have you guys ever heard of CC doing research?...sounds kinda amazing to me..1st time ever heard of it..but I am sure it's not that uncommon..🙄

Good community colleges have close ties with a nearby 4 year university. And it's probably more common than you think. I've attended classes at 2 community colleges in different states, and both had research opportunities (though we are talking about 3 or 4 projects in a year in sciences).

CCs are not black holes. You can do research there if you really look hard. No one will spoon feed you. And even if no one at your CC does research, you always have the option to reach out to the University of Vicinity and get a position there. I did an internship at an amazing institution that most people from any university cannot get even their application looked at. And this was while I was wasting my time in a CC. Another one of my classmates published a joint book with one of my teachers and transferred into a top 5 university.

A research project at a CC is of equal value to one at a university, especially when the PI already has research credentials. Many of the professors at our local CC also have positions at our university.

This is very true. A lot of my CC classes were taught by professors who held positions at closeby universities.
