Research in med school

Pardon me if this question is ridiculous, but does research in a Mater's program before med school or even undergrad count for anything in a residency application? Must the research be while in med school?

Everything is considered in the application. Master before or during medical school may help depending on the specialty you are interested in and how competitive other applicants you are competing with. If everything else equal, your degree will be a plus in your application.
