Is it useful at all to have research in non-GI fields for GI fellowship? Would you even list publications in fields like rheum, endo or other IM specialties in the application? Obviously GI-related research is king but does it benefit you at all to list others as well?

If it's legit research from the past list it and it will help, ideally it will be GI but a non GI first author manuscript in peer reviewed journal can in some ways be more helpful than a simple GI case report, it stands out that you can critically analyze and think and produce soundly conducted studies, and people will accept your honesty about speciality selection

How many publications in these non-GI fields? Are they full manuscripts OR Abstracts?
