I'm applying to several top 20 schools. I did talk about research in my PS, but I kind of geared it toward the fact that I wanted more than just research and that I really wanted patient interaction. I never said I was uninterested in research or anything, but I just said I would like the patient interaction portion in my career. Is this bad for top 20 schools (which tend to be research oriented)? I have a lot of research achievements, but I don't plan on pursuing it for a living. Anecdotes would be helpful about now. did anyone get into top 20 schools saying that they are leaning toward the more clinical aspect of medicine?

i dont think i see the dilemma here.. top 20 =/= md-phd. you don't have to want to do research all your life to go to a 'top 20.' i'd venture the vast majority of people at top 20s specialize or go into primary care (based on match lists) and are not primarily researchers in their respective careers.

actually, ignore what i said about match lists. i guess that doesn't predict much at all interms of how many go into research as a career.

Sure mention reserach, but donot actually say that you donot like it. Try to play it up a bit.
You donot need to defend why you are not going into research. What you need to say is why you are going into medicine.
