Hi there, I am new to this forum and would like to get an idea as to how I can obtain a research job in psychiatry. I am IMG who is preparing for usmles and would like to work part time in department of psychiatry. What is the protocol for finding research jobs in this field? I am currently near Chicago, IL and looking for some assistance.

THanks in advance.

Check out hospital websites under "opportunities." Some places will list positions. Also check with psychiatry department websites. Find guys that have projects that you are interested in and email them. "Cold" emailing is generally low yield, so you'll get a lot of "no thank you's" and some won't respond, but a few will, and start there.

In the email, 1st line:

Introduce who you are, and how you came across their name/why you're emailing them. Next state a reason why you believe you can complement their program, and that your CV is attached.

The longer the email, the more likely it will be ignored.
