Research in school biochem lab

Is working in a research lab in school count as volunteering? Since I spend so much time in the lab, I haven't had the chance to spend too much time shadowing or volunteering (30hrs total), and I was wondering if I can use it for volunteer hours.

it counts as research. its different from volunteering. volunteering is when you work in a hospital or clinic or with some non-profit organization. shadowing is pretty self explanatory. there are different places on the application for all 3 of these things
