I have an interview in a couple days with a potential mentor for research this summer. How are you supposed to dress up for it? I'm guessing it's not the "suit and tie" level of formality that med school interviews require. Would just a dress shirt and tie be ok?

That would be the safe choice. If you end up feeling overdressed you can just mention that you're on the way to the hospital after the interview or something.

I wouldn't wear your white coat, however...
