As a still very undecided M1 wading into research I just wanted to get a sense of if I have a good strategy.
So far I've been trying to just take opportunities that interest me without really focusing in on 1 specialty, so I've been working on some stuff in Trauma Surg., IR, and some other procedural-ish fields, with the goal being just to learn what I can and snag a few abstracts/pubs where I can. My thought is that once I hit late second - third year I can narrow specifically into 1 specialty of interest and tailor my application from there.
What I want to make sure of is that by potentially having a few projects or pubs in unrelated fields, I'm not disadvantaging myself for residency in the future. Is this a fair assumption?
