I do medical research at the NIH. the pay scale is pretty sad. $25,000 with just a BA or BS. $30,000 if you have a master's degree. i'm not sure about PhD.

Say what?!! I thought government research jobs tend to pay well! At least that's the impression that I got from reading the salary ranges that they list on websites like usajobs.gov.

I have a BS and work as a clinical research coordinator at a top university. I get 23K for full-time plus benefits. I really wish my paycheck was a little bigger, but i'm hanging on for a LOR. Some of these research institutions really like to take advantage of all of the pre-med losers hoping for a LOR and a possible publication.

When I was an undergrad, I was at 17.50/hr. with partial benefits part time. 33-36k pa. seems to be the standard for the research tech. position.

Of course, I only got paid that much without a BS because this was straight from my PI's grant. So, the only justification had to go through the department to the administrative guy, who sets payment based on credentials. My PI just said I had a BS at the time.

After 2years with a BA, I'm making $11.00 with no benefits or vacation, paid straight out of his grant, didn't go through HR for the hiring since it is supposed to be a part-time position. My PI is known to be super cheap, most of our lab is post-docs from China that he doesn't have to pay for, we have a bunch of undergrad volunteers, and only the senior tech has benefits.

i think it is around 5.14 if i work 7 hours days 5 days a week....at least being a loser and living with my parents keeps the costs down

The low salary has more to do with there being more biology graduates with a B.S. then there are jobs. Employees know they can get away with paying a low salary.

Clinical Research Coordinator / Analyst here. I started at 15.00 an hour. I make 50K now, but that's after 7 years, and I run a lot of the studies in my department.

Entry level research associate positions at many universities (at least the UCs) will get you about 33-35k a year. When I was working, I was getting ~17.80 an hour or so but I also lucked out in that they put me as an associate II. If you work in industry, you would almost definitely be getting paid more.

$50k in California? Not all that great for the location. $50k in a rural Midwest city is very good pay.

I've seen entry level tech jobs at Mayo Clinic in Rochestor, MN starting at $22 and $24 an hour.
