Does anyone know a good place to find research positions before medical school? I am currently taking the science pre-reqs. I have a job in an ER but it is mostly admin work. It gives me good exposure to a lot of patients and I get to see a lot of crazy stuff, (It's in Philly so you can imagine the things that come into the ER) But I am looking for another job where I get some research experience tha will look good on my med school application. I was looking on the PENN website cause I did my volunteer work there but I figured I would ask everyone if they know a good resource to check for open positions. A lot that I have seen usually require some CRA experience or a BS in bio or something similar, and I am a non-trad applicant so my degree is in Econ. If anyone knows any good places for students to look I would appreciate it. I'm sure everyone is still full from the turkey dinner last night so take your time and recover first!!! Thanks.

Hopkins in Baltimore always has spots available.

If you are in philly I suggest looking at research facilities in the area you have Penn, Jefferson, Drexel, and Temple (as well as Cooper/RWJ across the river) all in that area with some biotech companies in the area as well. I would suggest looking into those and searching the web and contacting some of the labs just sending out an resume. You never know what could come of it. I know Cooper lets premeds do clinical research in the ER, its just having people fill out paper work or something like that.

:luck:

My suggestion is to go look at school web site and look at the research pages. You can also go look for human resources page of the university and look for research jobs.

Oh and to get your foot in the door, Penn has a summer class "research in clinical emergency medicine" ... there are two courses actually. Quite a few premeds try to take it so I would look into that as well. 🙂

Also Penn has a great volunteer program if you haven't checked that out. Might make some contacts that way ...

I worked as a research assistant at Jefferson throughout college. Basically, I sent cover letters/resumes to several labs at the school to see if they were interested in having an assistant. I got several positive replies. PM me if you want more info!
