i currently have a basic outline of a research project that i have been messing around with the past couple months or so. i have the survey that i would use completed but a few notes other than that. a researcher at my university's hospital likes my project and is currently working on assigning a med student, resident, and attending to the project. but i feel like i have a fraction of material that i should have at this point. if anyone with experience could help and maybe give me an idea of what i should have done? he asked me to email him all of what i have so far.

1) give her/him what you have so far
2) supply any papers you used to form your ideas
3) ask the researcher to outline next steps for you

typically I think the researcher would want to see an unfinished abstract explaining the reason for the research, supplying background knowledge, and an outline of the materials needed/intended methods. A hypothesis would probably be good too. Honestly from what you've written it's hard to tell what kind of research you're doing but most/all research papers require a type of abstract and something of a hypothesis within. Wording etc. can/should change as you go but keeping a firm record as you continue collecting info is part of the process. hope this helps... good luck!

Make sure to discuss how exactly your project will be divided up before sending all the details that you put effort into...you probably don't want someone to take the idea and basically leave you with an acknowledgement or low-author paper.
