Hey everyone,
This upcoming Fall 2013 semester I will be conducting research at The University of Akron throughout my senior year. I was wondering if anybody else is currently working on any research projects? I would love to hear some creative and interesting experiences. Any advice is appreciated as well since I have never formally researched a certain topic with a professor.
My research will be involving adjuvants and the immunogenicity of vaccines. Adjuvants are substances that enhance the immunogenicity of vaccines. I will be specifically focusing on the protein, alpha-galactosylceramide (alpha-GalCer), and how it affects cells of the innate immune system. My hypothesis is that is that cells of the innate immune system in peripheral lymphoid organs, such as the spleen and lymph nodes, respond to adjuvants by producing cytokines that travel to the bone marrow and activate cells to increase nitric oxide production.
Looking forward to hearing from you guys!
